As you requested, I am attaching a photo of me on my
KSS at Monthlery.
The bike was built up from parts about 7 years ago,
starting with the remains of a 1930 KTP (frame,
gearbox and rear wheel)
I've used it on the road for club runs, for sprints
and hillclimbs in England (Saltburn, Catterick,
Castle Ashby etc.).
And we've been to the Isle of Man for Manx Grand Prix week and to the Moto Legendes
event at Monthlery.
It's been very reliable and
remarkably oil tight for a Mark 1 Cammy.
Looking forward to meeting you in Holland
Best Regards
John Hannis
KTT 279 .... 1934 Velocette KTT . Alan lawrence.
KTT Velocettes were racing machines that could be bought by any rider who wanted to race and be competitive , the first " over the counter " racing machine supplied by a leading company to the public
This bike was assembled in the late 1960's by an English engineer , (John Smith) , for use in Historic Club racing where it competed quite sucessfully.
The frame and cycle parts come from a machine, originally sold in the UK, in 1934 ( a Mk IV KTT ) and were acquired at some time by John Smith after the engine and gearbox were taken out and put into a lighter /later frame to keep it competitive in grass racing in the late 1930's . The current engine ( KTT 279 ) from a 1932 Mk II KTT, was first supplied with a machine that went to Prague .
Though now a mixture of period parts that did not start life together , the bike represents the concept of a true Historic Club racer , developed and adapted to keep it competitive in it's class over several years by addition of later ( better ) parts , however all the machine parts are appropriate to those used by the Velocette factory in the 1930's .
KTT 279 has KTT Mk IV cycle parts from 1934, Mk VI type cylinder head , KTT Mk VIII piston , camshaft and rockers , a Mk VIII front wheel , the gearbox has TT extra close racing ratios.
I acquired the bike from the USA in 2002 where it had been in a collection and standing for about 20 years after it was last raced in the UK . Since then I have rebuilt the bike and had the pleasure of meeting the widow and family of the builder and some of the original riders from the 1970's.
KTT 279 is road registered and is regularly used on road and track .
I have been a member of the Velocette Owners Club for 40 years and raced in historic events in the UK with the Vintage MCC from 1985 to 1990 . My road Velocette is an 1968 , 500cc , Thruxton Venom . It's been my ambition over my VOC membership to own one of all the major types of machine built and sold by Velocette and the KTT completed the series for me .
